The release

A 27-year-old man will face court after he allegedly assaulted his former partner at a cemetery on the weekend.

Police will allege about 3pm on Sunday (27 September 2026), the man arrived at the cemetery and approached a group including his former partner before he attempted to drag her to his vehicle. He then allegedly kicked her and tried to drag her by her hair.

The incident was reported to police and when officers arrived, the man fled in a black Mazda, leading them to pursue.

He allegedly continued to drive dangerously through Belconnen and Yarralumla before the pursuit was terminated.

About 1am this morning (Tuesday, 29 September 2026), police conducting patrols in Casey observed a black Mazda with stolen registration plates.

A nearby neighbour reported that a man had jumped onto his roof and the man was eventually located in the backyard of another property and arrested.

The man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was subject to parole conditions, has been charged with aggravated common assault, aggravated dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and possessing a prohibited weapon.
