The release

An 18-year-old man was arrested in a stormwater drain last night after allegedly fleeing from police.

About 9:15pm on Sunday (20 September 2026), ACT Policing received a report from a member of the public regarding a road rage incident on the Barton Highway involving a white Mitsubishi Lancer with ACT registration YGR61C.

A short time later, police located the Mitsubishi in Lyneham. Officers activated their emergency lights to stop the vehicle, however the driver accelerated through a red light.

About 10:15pm, police located the vehicle leaving an address in Ainslie. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver again allegedly failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the vehicle was observed driving without headlights, travelling on the wrong side of the road and onto pedestrian footpaths within a residential area. The vehicle's tyres deflated shortly after, and the 18-year-old man abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended in a storm water drain by police.

The 18-year-old Goulburn man, who was subject to bail conditions, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (21 September 2026), charged with contravening a family violence order, aggravated dangerous driving and failure to stop motor vehicle for police.
