The release

A man will face court charged after two people were allegedly assaulted with a hammer in Sydney’s north-west.

Detectives attached to Ryde Police Area Command commenced investigations following reports of two separate alleged hammer attacks earlier this week.

In the first incident, about 9pm on Tuesday (13 October 2026), emergency services responded to reports of a man being assaulted with a hammer at a home on Doomben Avenue, Eastwood.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 75-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers were informed that the 75-year-old man was in the home at the time when he responded to a person knocking on the front door. Upon opening the door, he was allegedly struck in the face with the hammer.

In the second incident, shortly before 7am yesterday (Wednesday 14 October 2026), emergency services attended a park on the corner of Blaxland Road and Dooben Avenue, Eastwood, after a 71-year-old man was allegedly hit several times in the face and head with a hammer.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Crime scenes were established at both locations that were examined by specialist police.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators with the assistance of North and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group and the Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at a unit on Doomben Avenue, Eastwood.

A hammer was allegedly located and seized near the property.

Police will allege, during the arrest, the man allegedly assaulted police, before a taser was successfully deployed.

The man was taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and destroy or damage property less than $2000.
