The release

A man has been arrested following an investigation into reports of a man seen with a firearm in Sydney’s Inner West last week.

About 10.20am (Friday 16 October 2026), police were called to a carpark on Williams Parade, Dulwich Hill, following reports of a stolen vehicle.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and were told a man was armed with a firearm inside a reported stolen vehicle, before allegedly setting fire to the vehicle.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene and extinguished the fire, and no injuries have been reported.

The man then left the area on foot and was last seen on Union Street.

Police established a crime scene and the area was placed into lockdown as officers searched for the man.

Strike Force Ranilo was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 11.30pm yesterday (Sunday 18 October 2026), a 32-year-old man was arrested on Burwood Road, Burwood, after allegedly attempting to evade police.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a minor injury sustained during the arrest.

He was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment under police guard, before he was taken to Newtown Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing.
