The release

Five teenagers will face court following an alleged armed robbery in the state's north yesterday.

About 3pm on Sunday 18 October 2026, police were called to Scenic Drive, Budgewoi, following reports of an armed robbery.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District were told a group of people allegedly entered a store and threatened an employee – a 26-year-old man – with a machete while demanding cash and cigarettes.

The group allegedly ran from the store before leaving the area in a vehicle.

Police will also allege a woman was threatened as the group fled the store. She was not injured.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

A short time later, the vehicle was located at Birdie Beach, where police arrested five boys, including two aged 15, two aged 17, and a 16-year-old, nearby.

One 17-year-old boy was charged with robbery in company and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The remaining four boys were each charged with robbery in company.

All five were refused bail and are due to appear before a Children's Court today (Monday 19 October 2026).
