The release

South Sydney detectives have released CCTV of a man they believe can assist with an investigation into a fatal stabbing of a man in Sydney’s inner south last month.

About 7.20pm on Tuesday 18 August 2026, emergency services were called to a unit on Pitt Street, Waterloo, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attended and a found man had been stabbed.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

About 8.45pm, police were informed the 34-year-old man died in hospital.

A 35-year-old woman, who was with the 34-year-old man, was also assaulted and sustained minor injuries.

A crime scene was established, and South Sydney detectives commenced an investigation into the incident, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV and want to speak to two males who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The first man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 18-19 years old, of thin build, about 160-170 cm tall, with short, well-kept dark hair.

He is depicted on CCTV wearing a black-hooded jumper, off-white tracksuit pants with a black drawstring, and dark-coloured runners with white soles.

The second male is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 17-18 years old, of thin build and about 170-180 cm tall.

He is described as having unshaven facial hair and longer dark hair pulled back into a bun or ponytail.
